SCORE

Wednesday, 17th October 2007

The Athletic's Union clubnight, the first SCORE of the new term is being held on Wednesday 17th at Syndicate. The theme is "Jungle themed", and you can grab yourself a ticket for £4 from me this Thursday if you fancy going. A proportion of the ticket cost goes back into our club so it is well worth attending (and I believe our captain Andy has promised to dress up very stylishly for it as well)!

Scavenger Hunt!

Thursday, 25th October 2007

This week the weather is looking great so it is time for the...

Scavenger Hunt!

After the pool we shall quickly move up to the Epi where the freshers and new club members will pick their teams. We shall need plenty of old boys and existing members on hand to show them the ropes when it comes to the points scoring. You'll have 2 and a bit hours to tick off as many points as possible with both drinking and non-drinking challenges.

Finish is by 10:30pm at the Bristol RAM on Park Street.

Remember to bring a digital camera to capture the night. Afterwards you can get me the pictures so I can upload them to the website and count the scores.

See you all Thursday at 8:00pm then, don't miss out on one of the best nights of the year!

Pub Quiz @ Epi Bar

Thursday, 8th November 2007

I've got told off for making my emails too long, so I'll be brief!

Social this week: a pub quiz up in the Epi! There will be questions on paddling, Bristol information and general knowledge so you'll need a good mix of new and old members to help build your ultimate dream team!

Starts around 8pm after the pool session.

If you are thinking this sounds a bit chilled, then remember you will be relaxing before the carnage of GFFF on Friday! Tickets £4 available from me at the pool! Don't forget!!

Get F***ed For Fitz!

Friday, 9th November 2007

Jon paddlingWhat is it?

It's a big party and celebration in memory of Jon Fitzsimmons, a dedicated member of the club who tragically died out in the Alps in July 2003. The Canoe Club set up a memorial fund where money raised at GFFF is collected, and is then put towards sending people on safety courses and buying safety equipment for the club, to help prevent a similar thing happening again.

The details for this year?

Venue: Slug & Lettuce (St. Nicholas Street, BS1 1UB)
Date: Friday 9th November
Time: 9pm onwards

Tickets cost £4 and are available from any committee member. I will be selling tickets at pool sessions leading up to the party.

In addition, there will be an awesome raffle with amazing prizes coming in from paddling companies, restaurants and many other places. Last year we had prizes such as buoyancy aids, kayakojacko lessons, paddling dvd's, crates of beer, t-shirts and lots more. A good excuse to spend some money for a good cause!

It's always an amazing night and a great chance to get everyone together including all the old boys, plenty of other sports clubs (climbers, windsurfers, divers etc...) and other canoe clubs from round the country such as UWE & Exeter.

It's a brilliant night, in memory of an amazing guy, and a chance to raise lots of money for a good cause. All the money goes straight back into promoting safety within the club, so it's all in our benefit. No excuses for not coming!

Corrie Tap Visit

Thursday, 17th January 2008

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all that jazz!

This week after the pool we will be heading on over to the CORRIE TAP, which needs no further introduction, for some alcohol induced merry making. Come along and catch up after all the stress of exams and revision. (bring a few coppers as well...)

4 Legged Pub Crawl

Thursday, 24th January 2008

The next big one is here!

4-Legged Pubcrawl: Canoe Club + Mountaineers + Mountain Bikers

Date: Thursday 24th January
Start: 8:30pm, Highbury Vaults
Middle: You won't remember
End: Joe Publics

The mountaineers & bikers picked the theme of 'ARMY'. However, being cool (AND NOT TELLING THEM so its a suprise...) we are going to go with a TERRORIST/ CONVICT theme. Think orange jumpsuits, fake bombs strapped to your chest, handcuffs, scraggy beards... Politically incorrect is good!

Make an effort: this is going to be an awesome night!

See you Thursday!
