Highbury Vaults at 8:30ish onwards...
You've probably all heard that the Wednesday nights Sportsnight that used to be at the Wedge has this year been relocated to The Sports Cafe down on Baldwin Street.
This Wednesday (11th) is the launch night of it with a Beach Party theme, complete with surf simulator, sandcastles, bbq and much more. There will be plenty of drinks deals and a huge range of exotic cocktails.
Entry is £2.50, and £1 of that goes straight back into our club, so we have the potential to earn ourselves some good money, and you can't argue with that!
After the first pool session (7:00-8:00) this year we're all going to move on up to the Epi at 8:00 for a drink (or five...) and a get-to-know each other sesh as our first social. Then who knows where we'll move on to, or where we'll end up....
It is once again time for the AU's SCORE night. This year it's being held at Oceana on Wednesday 18th October. They are trying to go for the record and completely full Oceana to it's maximum.
I have tickets for sale. They are priced at £4 in advance, or they will be £5 on the door, but no gurantee that there will be any left to be sold on the door. Should be another great night. And of course some of the money from the tickets comes straight back into our club!
After the pool session at 8:00 we are having a River Talk to tell you all you need to know about club trips and the basics of safe whitewater paddling. This will be followed by a Scavenger Hunt, where you'll be in groups running round Clifton and the Triangle (generally fuelled by alcohol) doing some crazy things in order to earn you group points. No doubt followed by some dancing, canoe club style!
The popular first term social returns. A night of chaos, where you'll get tied to another member of the club, and then attempt to make your way down St. Michaels Hill visiting all the pubs on the way. Whoever's the first to Roxy's is the winner! Or rather, whoever makes it there still tied together is the winner!
It's time for the dreaded A-Z again! This is where everyone gets into pairs and we spend the night attempting to drink the entire alphabet, a drink beginning with every letter. 26 drinks, 13 each.....easy?! Starting off in the Epi, definetely going to the Berkeley en route, and other such places. Rumour has it last year's champions are returning back to Bristol for this social to attempt to keep their place as winners, so it's time for some serious competition!
This week it's your Vice Captain's Birthday, and so to keep him happy we're all going to go over to the Highbury Vaults (his favourite pub) on St. Michaels Hill for some drinks. They do some great 'Real Ales' which will keep all the old boys happy! I'm intending it to be a 'quiet one' (ha, like that ever happens) as we have 'Get F**ked For Fitz' at the weekend and so people want to save their drinking and energy for that....
It's once again time to Get F**cked For Fitz! This year it's being held at The Bliss Bar in town. A night in memory of Jon Fitzsimmons, a dedicated member of the club who was tragically killed in the Alps in July 2003. A chance to get everyone together (including all the old old boys!), to have some serious drinking, and to raise money in memory of Jon to go towards safety courses and safety equipment for the club. Tickets will be priced at £4 each. An email will be sent out giving out more information and to let you know when tickets will be on sale.
After the pool we're all going to head over to the Indian Ocean on Cotham Hill for a nice curry.
Craig has very kindly has offered up his house as a location for this Thursdays social. Luckily he lives right next to the pool (literally about 100yards!) right next to the Richmond Springs. The plan after the pool is to maybe go to the Richmond Springs for a quick drink, but then to go over to Craigs for some drinking. It's time to learn all the traditional BUCC drinking games and drinking songs (his housemates are going to love that......) It will be a good chance to catch up with people and get to know more people, but the option to get horrendously drunk is there if you want it. Towards the end of the night the plan is to maybe move somewhere on the triangle for some dancing, but we will see how the night pans out..... The union shop is right next door so we can pick up alcohol (and snacks) en route, unless people feel like lugging booze to the pool (but I don't think they'd be too impressed).

As it's the Xmas meal this weekend we're going to have a tame social (tho bear in mind what happened at last years pre-xmas meal social.....), probably either heading up to the Epi for some drinks, or maybe another pub of choice. Is yet to be decided.
This years Xmas meal is being held at 'The Fine Line' on Whiteladies. The meal will start at 8:00 and dress code is black tie (or as near to it as you can). Time to get the fancy dresses out again! Afterwards we'll be moving on to 'Comfi Lounge' on the Triangle for some dancing!
Cheques (for £23.95) need to be given to me by Thursday 23rd November.
This weeks social is still being planned. I am trying to organise something slightly different, and will let you know as soon as I know....
With Jane away Skiing, She has asked me to sort the social out for Thursday and so this week's social is a to be Rubik's Cube
For those of you who haven't played the Rubik's cube game before, the idea is to turn up wearing clothes in all the colours of a Rubik's cube and swap an item in each pub until you're dressed in all one colour. The standard colours are:
Red
Yellow
Green
Blue
Orange
White
Remember that you can use hats/gloves/glasses/masks/any random junk you wear and that most of the stuff will get lost, so going to a charity shop is a good idea. As there will be much swapping of clothes its an opportunity to make someone wear something truly hideous (The charity shop social is another opportunity to do this).
Initially we will start in the Epi before we go on a small pub crawl of 6 pubs (1 for each item of clothing you need to swap) and with the aid of digital cameras we can decide who won (based on how they ended up looking) on the message board afterwards.
See you on Thurs,
Craig
Which one? You decide (...just like Big Brother).
Get your golfing gear out of the wardrobe for this one. Aim of the game is to work your way through 18 holes (drinks). I think there are some rules relating to how many strokes (sips) you take for each type of drink but I can't remember them very well.
Up to the Epi after the pool, get into teams, get the drinks in and off you go! Questions to do with paddling, general knowledge, the club and even club members....
This week we're going to go along and watch our very own Oli Brown along with the rest of the Hornstars performing at Joe Publics. With a few drinks at the Epi first of course...
Don't worry about eating before the pool this week, as we'll be heading down to the New World under Unite House for the amazing 'all you can eat chinese', normally prices at £12 but will try and get us a discount. And if you feel brave enough feel free to get up and do some singing! We all know Rich is a favourite of this!
(originally this was scheduled for 8th August 2007 but I'm guessing the social secretary had too much to drink and meant March)
St Patrick's day and birthday party on the same day?! That's right - a cunningly organized party by Andy and James. It's at Bliss Bar, 9:00pm til late. The whole place has been booked out and it's open invitation, so feel free to bring friends (no chavs apparently). If you like northern scallies, a Sheffield contingent will be attending too.
8:00 at Hullaballoos. After party plans and more details to follow shortly....
